Back in the saddle after a short break, we were one player short but have no fear, that didn’t stop Nicklas from getting in on the action. The party found itself in the depths of the dungeon. This is the first level, which has its fair share of fights already, but it still had some surprises left. Namely, a seemingly endless generator of skeleton warriors.
But first, there were jackals. Random encounter in the dungeon manifested in the form of a pack of jackals. They proceeded to attack, but were quickly dispatched by the party.
Next, the party went down another hall that turned left (west, for those more cardinally inclined) and then right (north). This opened up into another unexplored room.
In a fairly elaborate chamber with a flagstone floor is etched a pentagon. At each corner is a brazier burning with some kind of eldritch energy. And in the center is a gold cauldron. The party recognized that this was likely trapped, since everything is probably trapped and especially if it looks like it’s gotta be a trap. It’s pretty great. After some attempts to pull the gold cauldron out of the boundaries of the pentagon didn’t go as planned, I forget who (probably Calvert) just walked into the shape.
This triggered the aforementioned skeleton factory, which started with a skeleton at each point of the pentagon, with new ones appearing every turn. Stacia turned a number of the undead. She even at some point in the night appealed to Mitra and it went well?
This Yakkity Sax inspired fight had some highlights.
- Sean, playing everyone’s favorite halberd wizard Nicklas, cast Scorching Ray… and lost it.
- One of my notes says “reconstructed Nick,” which I have no idea of what I meant but sounds funny.
- Nicklas used spellburn to cast Sleep, which was very exciting and he achieved this by slicing a notch out of his ear.
- Oh, regarding Jackals, I wrote “12 damage for Jackalsplosion” which also sounds funny.
- Also Stacia managed to do some healing, praise Mitra.
The party retreated from the room, taking out some bonies out along the way. They found a stairway leading out of the dungeon. Which brought them to a storage room. They found some rat traps with gold pieces set as bait.
My notes go dark at this point. But it looks like the party has once again found themselves in yet another village building.
