DCC Dark Tower Recap #6

The session began with the party looking to bust a ghost. Stacia was having no success turning said ghost and switched tactics: it was chompin’ time! Her divine dentures were the only magical weapon in the party, and unlike her failed attempts to summon the divine power to turn the apparition, biting proved very effective. To everyone’s surprise, she not only hit but did significant damage. I can only imagine biting a ghost has an Ecto Cooler aftertaste.

After a couple of bites from Stacia, aka Ms. Pac-Man, the ghost realized it was at risk of being destroyed. The ghost of Shamling the wine merchant’s rage at the desecration of his sarcophagus subsided. He asked the party if they served Avvakris. We also had a good laugh when Jim asked if the ghost’s name was Shandling and we started to sing the Gary Shandling Show theme song. Anyway, Shamling made it clear that he only wished to get his revenge on Avvakris. Once the party made it clear that they too were enemies of Avvakris, the spirit restored the attributes damage it had drained. With the ghost now pacified, the party moved on to find Ishpemo.

Ishpemo had run into a large room filled with corpses in his hasty retreat. When the party caught up with him he was in the middle of fighting a black ooze. The party joined the combat and made short work of the monster. Moments later the party was attacked again, now from carrion crawlers that were striking from the ceiling. More combat ensued and the monsters were slain. But all of this non-stop fighting was starting to wear the party down.

An illusory wall to the north of the carrion-filled room was discovered. The party opted to explore this path instead of the passageway to the west. þordis found a secret door that lead the party to a hidden tomb. The party entered the tomb from the south via a hidden door beneath an ornate throne. An old man sitting peacefully was sitting on the throne, but was revealed to be an illusion. To the north was a copper coffin set on a stone pedestal. After all of the shenanigans with sarcophagi, no one really wanted to tempt fate and investigate. Instead we ended the session with the party deciding to rest in the relative safety of the hidden tomb. After a series of sessions that ended mid-combat, this was a definite change of pace.

Next week we will find out if the party is any closer to escaping the dungeon. Maybe their luck is changing?
