This session marked a new milestone- fastest introduction and death of a PC since the funnel. And Rolland has broken the tie for player with the most dead PCs. But I am getting ahead of myself.
The party resumed exploring the dungeon and were now faced with crossing a rope bridge. Below was a ransacked and vandalized temple of Mitra. And across the bridge was the doomed elf Yannis. After surprising Calvert by greeting him in dwarfish. But when he started moving across the bridge, it awoke a colony of giant vampire bats. And from there, a chaotic and costly battle ensued.
I believe it was Calvert who fell from the rope bridge after failing an agility test triggered by moving at normal speed. The new guy, Yannis, was clearly not your normal elf, for he clearly demonstrated he was a friend of dwarfs (shocking! scandalous!). He rushed to aid the fallen dwarf by lowering a fancy elf rope to help him.
The fight started poorly, with Nick getting knocked to 0 hp again and Calvert’s aforementioned fall from the rope bridge. But Stacia managed to command a number of bats to hibernate, and once Nick was back on his feet he put a number of them to sleep. But before the battle turned to the party’s favor, tragedy struck.
Yannis wished to descend the rope in order to help Calvert who had a giant vampire bat latched to him. Instead, he reversed Mary Poppins into the ground. The damage brought him to 0 hp, and it was only a matter of time before the Rollad DNR came into effect. This brutal, self-imposed rule has made us all watch helplessly while somehow Nicklas is still alive. Nicklas, who if he had a Subway punch card for a half inch sub for each time he hit 0 hp would easily have a footlong sub worth of stamps already. But this also highlights a pattern in this DCC campaign: elves don’t last long. Dwarfs? Yes. Halflings? Half the time. But elves? Nope. Apparently this campaign isn’t that kind of campaign, so see yourself to the door Mr. Legolas.
Eventually the party broke the morale of the bats, due primarily to the efforts of Nick and Stacia, and they were once again looting the body of another dead Rolland character. At this point it’s like rolling over a 401k.
After saying “nope” to a tunnel that descended to levels below, the party came across a barracks. They put an armored warrior to sleep (Nick, aka Mr. Brownstone) and were left with a decision: do we go lower into the dungeon, or backtrack?
