DCC Dark Tower Recap #21

This session ended in such a dizzying array of misfortune for our party that I’m doing things a little backwards. I added the featured image first before writing anything. But fucking hell, Xor the Evil One has put up a fierce fight. And there you go, I’m talking about the end of the session first. My only regret is that we don’t see the warhammer that Xor used to “encapitate” Poundfoolish and to smash the fucking leg off of Calvin in a series of critical hits the like we haven’t quite seen before from a villain.

But speaking of villains, is Xor a villain simply by virtue that his monicker is “The Evil One?” Well, huh, yeah, probably. But we don’t really know what kind of evil he is. Other than the kind that rallies hard with a warhammer. After losing his magic sword Trollbane in a disastrous fumble, Xor, near death, proceeded to grievously wound two of the three oldest characters in the party. Poundfoolish was paralyzed by a “crippling blow to the spine” and suffers “permanent paralysis.” In my notes I wrote “encapilated” which refers, I think, to how his head was mashed into his spine. I could be wrong. Then Calvert, who is no stranger to dismemberment, received a crit “Blow severs leg.” It was determined to be his man-sized leg. That man-sized leg was a fine memento from the funnel, and its loss may perhaps mean Calvert gets a proper dwarf-sized leg the next time.

So there you really have it. Sure, some ghouls were fought at the start of the night. *yawn* But things picked up when the party met Grimstone, a serious looking elf perhaps reminiscent of a certain Melnibonean. He didn’t live very long, but he’s the reason why the party was not vibing with Xor. Somebody may have picked up his sword, The Sword of Kroan, which is a pretty badass intelligent long sword.

Also there was a guy named Cronok the Fox, but he didn’t live too long, neither. Normally he’s the kind of henchman who will gladly turn sides given the chance, but he was not given a chance. He, for a change, did not have a magic sword.

Here’s what’s next for our currently bleeding-all-over-the-dungeon party:

– Calvert is out for a round or two because of the incredible pain he’s in
– Poundfoolish is “permanently” paralyzed
– Nick is up first when the bloodbath resumes!
