It was a short session this week. Perhaps blame it on the judge being lazy. We were running on a skeleton crew of 3 players, and our party is about to transition into the next leg of the campaign, so it was probably for the best. Regardless, we still managed to get a few important things done. And shenanigans most definitely ensued.
One important thing, perhaps the most important thing really, was escaping from Mitra’s Cross. Last session ended with the team making a tactical retreat from Gabbro the stone giant. Gabbro was shelling the party like a Howitzer, so a hasty withdrawal back into the dungeon-like cavern below was made. The party ran around the cairn’s underbelly for a while, discovering that Mitra’s Magic Beaver was no longer hanging out in an empty temple.
The party then snuck into Gabbro’s part of the cave, desperate to find some foodstuff or drink to lace with poison. Chandler rolled a natural 20 for a move silently check! He deftly maneuvered into the cave, discovering no threats.
Finding the giant’s residence fairly bereft of much in the larder except for some camel jerky and a big sack of oats, the party proceeded to explore a part of the cave they hadn’t visited yet. Chandler rolled another move silently check: this time, he rolled a natural 1. The cave bear, who Gabbro named Talus, was awakened by the noise. The dazed bear was not ready to attack until Chandler, I believe, rolled another natural 1 sneaking up on it. It was time to roll initiative!
The bear put up a good fight. It almost killed Nicklas. But Chandler did some savage long sword attacks and Calvert smashed its head like a piñata. The bear dead, the party found it was an otherwise loot-free room.
The party left the cave and exited from the cairn from the rear and carefully rounded their way back to the village. Their destination was Acolyte Bentley’s cabin. As they carefully moved in the shadows of the setting sun, they noticed that at a distance Gabbro, back turned to them, was apparently munching on a camel. They continued to the cabin on the hill, and met with Bentley. Soon Gabbro departed back to the cairn. And not long after that, a loud bellow rumbled the surrounding land: Gabbro had discovered the fate of his animal companion.
It was at this point the party, with as much water as they could carry, ran to the remaining camels. There were the party’s own two camels, as well as three of Akken’s former camels. Sadly, Gabbro had made a meal of Beans. Knowing that an angry giant was likely to come looking for them, they made haste. Camel bound, the party headed south along a trail that follows the foothills of the mountains. The journey to Mitra’s Fist has begun.
Also the party leveled up! Level 3, here we come.
